The debit cleared and the account still says past due

Your student loan payment leaves your bank account on the due date. Two weeks later you get an email saying your account is past due.

You have the debit on your bank statement. They still say the money is not there.

Two weeks of being told it is under research

  1. Autopay took your payment on the due date. Your bank shows it left.
  2. The servicer's system did not record it against your loan.
  3. You called and sent a copy of your bank statement.
  4. You were told the matter was being researched.
  5. You called again two weeks later. Still being researched.
  6. Late notices kept arriving the whole time.
  7. You are now counting the days until it is reported to the credit bureaus.

Why your bank's record and the loan's record disagree

Your payment and your loan record live in two different systems. The money moves through a payment processor. The balance sits with the servicer. Most months the two agree. When they do not, the servicer's record is the one that counts, and yours is treated as a claim to be investigated.

Investigations take weeks. Late reporting is automatic. Nothing stops the second while the first is running.

The signal: money out, balance unchanged

Money left your account. The loan balance did not fall. Those two facts are both visible, and putting them side by side is the whole check.

Where Plenee fits

the money goes out and the balance does not move by roughly the same amount, that is a mismatch it can raise the same week.

You are not asking your bank for statements while the clock runs.

"this payment cleared on the 3rd and the balance has not changed in six weeks." Plenee can hand you that sentence.

What Plenee cannot do is make the servicer's system find the payment. It shortens the gap between the error and you knowing about it.

works, and a record makes repetition cheap.

How often payments go missing

Payment handling is the largest single complaint type consumers file about student loans.1 The typical complaint describes a payment of a few hundred dollars and runs to about 180 words, most of them a list of phone calls.2

Also in these situations
  1. When a Company Mishandles Your AccountYour bank and the loan sit in different systems. Which one counts, and what settles the argument.
Sources
  1. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau public complaint database, 39,990-complaint stratified sample, 2026. Payment-handling complaints are 19.4% of student loan complaints in the sample.
  2. Same sample: median payment amount mentioned is $500; 35% of these complaints describe telephoning the servicer. Figures are weighted so circulated form letters count once.
